The Bulk Processing Guide: Thumbnail Generator
The Adiminium Thumbnail Generator is a workflow accelerator. In any web project or photo gallery, you rarely display full-resolution 4K images instantly—that would crash the browser. Instead, you display small, lightweight "Thumbnail" versions. This tool lets you create those assets in bulk.
Cover vs. Contain (The Golden Rule)
When fitting an image into a square box, you have two choices:
- Cover (Crop): "Fill the box." We zoom in until the box is full. Edges of the image will be cut off. Best for grids of avatars or product tiles where uniform alignment is key.
- Contain (Fit): "Show the whole image." We zoom out until the image fits. Empty space might appear on sides (letterboxing). Best for art galleries where you can't crop the artwork.
Use Cases
- E-commerce: You have 50 product photos of different sizes. Use this to make 50 uniform 300x300 square thumbnails for your catalog page.
- Video Platforms: Generate 1280x720 "Poster" images for your video player.
- File Management: Create tiny 150px icons for a custom file uploader UI.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Batch Upload: Select 10, 20, or 50 images at once. The tool uses your CPU's multi-threading to process them.
- Set Rules: "I want 300px squares, and I want them Cropped (Cover)."
- Regenerate: Click the button. The grid updates instantly.
- Download ZIP: Instead of clicking "Save" 50 times, click "Download ZIP" once to get a clean archive of all your new assets.
Filename Handling: The specific files in the ZIP will be prefixed with `thumb_`. For
example, `vacation.jpg` becomes `thumb_vacation.jpg`. This makes it safe to extract them into the same
folder as your originals without overwriting them.
